    • Differences between white and black files:
    – White files (aluminum oxide) — more flexible, softer and wear-resistant.
    – Black files (silicon carbide) — harder but more brittle.
    – White files have rounded grain, safe for the nail plate; black ones have sharp, self-sharpening grain.
    – White files have a stearate coating preventing dust clogging; black ones do not.
    – White works better on dry nails, black on wet nails.
